San Diego, Calif., June, 2010 – GoPro, maker of the world’s best selling and highest performance wearable HD video cameras, has signed on as the 2010 title sponsor for the GoPro X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival as well as the 2010 title sponsor for the Hollywood Film Screening Series. Lake Tahoe is the first stop for the GoPro X-Dance Film Festival and will take place from June 10–12, at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa.
The GoPro X-Dance Hollywood Screening Series will take place later this summer at the Red Bull Screening Room in Santa Monica, California.
“GoPro represents the cutting edge of technology and their incredible cameras make it easier for filmmakers to get inside the action! GoPro is a perfect partner for X-Dance whose mission is to cultivate and create better films in the action sports world,” says Brian Wimmer, X-Dance co-founder and festival director.
HERO of the Big Screen
GoPro’s HD HERO camera is the world’s best selling wearable camera, capturing professional 1080p and 720p HD video with big screen quality and intense clarity normally only seen from cameras costing twenty times as much. And while the resolution and clarity are impressive, the HD HERO’s 60 frames per second performance in 720p allows filmmakers to capture incredibly smooth slow motion action shots that leave the audience breathless.
The HD HERO is used by professional athletes and by production companies filming for the Discovery Channel, MTV Productions, NBC as well as 2010 X-Dance award nominee and snowboard legend, Michael Basich.
“It’s amazing that such a small camera can deliver such a high quality image for the big screen. GoPro’s HD HERO camera brings a new level of inspiration to the action sports film industry. Its compact size and durability allows us to place the cameras in positions that simply weren’t possible or were too dangerous to the athlete, opening up doors for our creativity,” said Michael Basich whose film Open Spaces was nominated for a 2010 X-Dance award.
Basich will also be a guest doing Q&A during the Tahoe series, others include kick ass snowboarder Tara Dakides, wakeboarding maverick Parks Bonifay, extreme skier rock star Matt Reardon, and legendary filmmaker Warren Miller.
“X-Dance is the crown jewel venue for the actions sports film industry and is a natural partner for GoPro,” said Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro. “GoPro is focused on making it easy for athletes and professional filmmakers to capture HD footage of their most harrowing moments in sports and X-Dance is the perfect place for them to showcase their talents. The HD HERO has quickly become the HD tool of choice for today’s top sports filmmakers and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate this than sponsoring X-Dance and joining their terrific party. Stoked!”
X-Dance’s Executive Producer Eric Barrett adds, “GoPro is a perfect fit for X-Dance. We represent the best in action sports, and the HD HERO is the best wearable camera for shooting action sports. With a partner like GoPro we are being even more proactive in our dedication to elevating the genre of action sports films.”
